Confession

I have had a bit of a torrid time getting this thing going. So I apologize for not being quicker.

But quicker is the point of wiki's.

A More Positive Note

When I had untangled how to do it, the Manual Header template will make the maintenance of this site much easier.

  • When Joomla! 1.6 is released one single change will allow the Warning at the top of the page to be removed or changed to reflect Beta.
  • If it is decided to remove the status advice on the pages, that too is straightforward although perhaps a little less than removing the Warning.
  • The Naming Conventions will mean that Navigation happens automatically.
  • The possibility exists that the same text will be able to be used for the Manual and for the Help Pages.
  • The Naming Conventions allow us to consider multilingual Help Pages and Manual without too many structural changes.

  • And all of this without reference to a text book (Yes, I know that is an old man's view but I am) in 3 days. Of course, you could have done it quicker!

  • I have received very solid support from Chris Davenport who is the Master Guru of Joomla! documentation.
  • And he has pointed to two articles - here and here - which talk about using a Wizard approach to contributing articles.
  • And this reference to the Joomla! Documentation forum shows that folk are thinking about two ways to make wiki's more helpful.
    • The ability to include discussion sections on the pages like PHPdoc
      • Which would let code snippets be included.
    • And also leads to more straightforward localisation of the pages.

  • Watch this space - Wiki's will become your best friend - I promise.
