Downloading Joomla! installation files
How do I download the latest version of Joomla!?
Full package
1. Go to the Joomla Downloads page [1]
2. Click on "ZIP" next to the package you wish to download
Update package
1. Go to the Joomla Downloads page [2]
2. If you are 1 revision out of date, the patch file should be immediately beneath the full stable package
3. If you are more than one revision out of date, click on the link beneath the download files "Download other Joomla 1.x.x packages"
4. Find the relevant patch package for your requirements - if you currently have version 1.5.10 and want to update to 1.5.18, you need to download the file starting with "Joomla_1.5.10_to_1.5.18-Stable-Patch_Package"

How do I sign up to the Joomla! Security mailing list?
1. Go to the Joomla Downloads page [3]
2. Enter your email address in the white box, above the package files, and press "Subscribe"
3. Enter the captcha in the relevant box in the popup window, and click "Complete Subscription Request"
Setting up a database in CPanel
Creating a database
1. Log into CPanel (usually by appending /cpanel or :2082 to your URL) using your hosting account username and password
2. Click on "MySQL Databases" which can usually be found in the seventh window titled "Databases" - use Search if you cannot find it.
3. Enter a name into the "New Database" box and click on "Create database" - the name of your database will be hostingaccountusername_databasename
Creating a database user
1. Log into CPanel (usually by appending /cpanel or :2082 to your URL) using your hosting account username and password
2. Click on "MySQL Databases" which can usually be found in the seventh window titled "Databases" - use Search if you cannot find it.
3. Scroll about two-thirds of the way down the page, to "Add New User". Enter a username into the "Username" box, and click the "Generate Password" button to generate a random password. Ensure that you copy this into a spreadsheet or somewhere that you can access it when setting up Joomla!.
4. Click on "Create User" to create the new user - note that the username will be hostingaccountusername_username
Assigning the User permissions to the Database
1. Log into CPanel (usually by appending /cpanel or :2082 to your URL) using your hosting account username and password
2. Click on "MySQL Databases" which can usually be found in the seventh window titled "Databases" - use Search if you cannot find it.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, ensure that the correct username and database are selected in the dropdown boxes beneath "Add User to Database" and click the "Add" button
4. Tick the "All Privileges" box to assign the user all privileges in the database
5. Click "Make Changes" to apply the permissions to the user
Setting up a database in Plesk
Creating a database
1. Log into your Plesk Control Panel (usually by appending :8443 to your server IP)using your hosting account username and password
2. Click on the "Domains" link within the General menu
3. Within the Domains section, click on the domain name for the site where you wish to create a database
4. Click on "Databases" within the Resources section
5. Click on "Add New Database" from the Tools section
6. Enter a name into the "Database Name" box and click on "OK" - the name of your database will be hostingaccountusername_databasename
Uploading the installation files to your server
1. Use an FTP program such as FireFTP
2. Its quicker to FTP the installation file to your server and run it from there as opposed to unpacking it before you send it
3. If you unpack the file first, ensure you upload ALL the files & folders unpacked from the installation file
4. FTP it to the Public HTML folder
