How to access[edit]

You can access the News Feed Manager by clicking on 'News Feeds' then 'Feeds' in the 'Components' menu on the back-end of your Joomla! installation.

Description[edit]

The News Feed Manager screen allows you to add news feeds from other sites to your Joomla! site. You can add links to these feeds for users by creating news feed component menu items.

Column Headers[edit]

  • Checkbox. Check this box to select one or more items. To select all items, check the box in the column heading. After one or more boxes are checked, click a toolbar button to take an action on the selected item or items. Many toolbar actions, such as Publish and Unpublish, can work with multiple items. Others, such as Edit, only work on one item at a time. If multiple items are checked and you press Edit, the first item will be opened for editing.
  • News Feed Name. The name of the feed. Make it as descriptive as possible.
  • Published. Whether the item has been published or not. You can change the Published state by clicking on the icon in this column.
  • Order. The order to display items. If the list is sorted by this column, you can change the order by clicking the arrows or by entering the sequential order and clicking 'Save Order'.
  • Group. The user's Group. The following Groups are available:
    • Registered User: Normal visitors who register at the site. Can view Menu Items that have Access Level of Registered. Cannot edit or submit articles.
    • Author: Can submit new articles for approval in the front end only. A Publisher or higher must approve. Cannot edit existing articles.
    • Editor: Can submit new articles or edit existing articles from the front end only. A Publisher or higher must approve.
    • Publisher: Can submit, edit, or publish articles from the front end only.
    • Manager, Administrator and Super Administrator: Can do all of the above plus can log into the back end with increasing rights.
  • Category. The Category this item belongs to. Clicking on the Category title opens the Category for editing. See Category Manager - Edit.
  • # Articles. The number of articles to display.
  • Cache Time. The number of seconds to cache the feed locally.
  • ID. The ID number. This is a unique identification number for this item assigned automatically by Joomla!. It is used to identify the item internally, for example in internal links. You can not change this number.

Quick Tips[edit]

Feed Categories

You must add categories for your feeds before you add the feeds. These are added using the Category Manager by clicking 'News Feeds' then 'Categories' from the 'Components' menu.

Feeds Sort

The feeds are sorted by the Order column by default but you can sort them by any column, just click the column header.

Position of a New Feed

A newly added feed is published by default and is the last one in the selected category. This way you can easily find it and move it to the desired place.

Points to Watch[edit]

Points to Watch Placeholder

Highlight known issues or easy traps that can be fallen into when using this function. Include references to known solutions rather than repeating the solutions here, unless considered essential. Even if there are none immediately apparent leave this section in the Help Screen - this message for future reference. Just replace this message with None Known at this Time. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Please remove this placeholder as soon as you start entering text here.

Dependencies[edit]

Dependencies Placeholder

Describe other screens that rely on the presence of this function or that this function relies upon, in order to work correctly for example: a Category depends upon the presence of a Section (up) and it must be in place before a Categorised Article (down) can be created. If there are no Dependencies either up or down for the particular screen just state None but do include the section. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices. It will probably be sufficient to just list these and provide links to the Help Screens relating to the dependency.
