No, the problem is not due to any user deleting information, it is due to some corruption in the wiki database or a bug in the wiki software that is causing a redirect loop whenever I try to rename certain pages.  I'm working on a different solution to the problem. I see what you mean. It's quite a mess. The http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5410-joomla-251-released.html page refers to what almost looks like the correct page. The second bullet point under Instructions (Migration from Joomla! 1.5.x), links to http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_1.6. But if you start looking at the Discussion and History there, you'll eventually end up in a whirlpool of redirects.

Why a re-write? Is 1.5 -> 2.5 that different from 1.5 -> 1.6? If not, why not at least bring back what used to be here before it got blown away? This is very annoying for me, as I was just attempting a migration from 1.5, and now the page I was consulting has vanished...

What URL were you looking for?  There was a fault in the wiki database that caused some issues and which should now have been fixed.  If we are still missing a redirect I can easily re-instate it.  Chris Davenport 08:49, 29 January 2012 (CST)

The migration from 1.5 to any later version as presented in this article is incomplete. It may be too much for one article but there are three articles in play here: this one, Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 1.6+ and Upgrading a Joomla 1.5 template to Joomla 1.6. (Is it possible to move from 1.5 to any later version without revising the template?) Can these three articles be merged so that the migration instructions from 1.5 to any later version are in one document?

Now that 1.6 and 1.7 are deprecated and 2.5 is here, should the title of this page be changed? Perhaps it would be better to leave this one in place and create a new article with the title of Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5.

Hmm, indeed. When I wrote the question above, there were no redirects in place. Now I can't find the original article. It looks like there's a loop somewhere, Chris.

:To the previous poster here: I don't want to play down your efforts - but as far as I can tell, the database part of the migration definitely does NOT work that way. First off, there's actually no need to change the prefix; and second (and far more importantly): you can't simply import a 1.5 table dump into 1.6 tables! They have completely different structures; I can't really tell for 1.6 at the moment, but 1.7 e.g. has no name column in article anymore, but an asset_id... and many more changes to the columns! So you'll definitely need some kind of migration script here! Since I did the migration via JUpgrade, I don't have any working manual upgrade instructions at hand either at the moment, so I unfortunately can't contribute much constructively here, but I'll change the section so that it becomes clear that it still needs work to be complete. I added a section that describes how to manually upgrade joomla. If anyone has anything to add to it, please feel free.
