m (moved Bad to Talk:Upgrading from Joomla 1.7 to Joomla 2.5 over redirect: Because Tom6(who is now banned)blanked the talk page then moved it to a page called 'Bad' Chris Davenport's subsequent 'undo' only returned the text but the Move did no...)
Could someone please protect the page containing the instructions for the migration from version 1.5 to the later versions? It keeps disappearing. Elin? Chris?

No, the problem is not due to any user deleting information, it is due to some corruption in the wiki database or a bug in the wiki software that is causing a redirect loop whenever I try to rename certain pages. I'm working on a different solution to the problem. Chris Davenport 13:45, 31 January 2012 (CST)
I see what you mean. It's quite a mess. The http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5410-joomla-251-released.html page refers to what almost looks like the correct page. The second bullet point under Instructions (Migration from Joomla! 1.5.x), links to http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_1.6. But if you start looking at the Discussion and History there, you'll eventually end up in a whirlpool of redirects.

Think perhaps this article needs to be written for 1.5 and 2.5? Isn't relevant 1.5 at all, as noted below it looks like 1.6 to 2.5.

Why a re-write? Is 1.5 -> 2.5 that different from 1.5 -> 1.6? If not, why not at least bring back what used to be here before it got blown away? This is very annoying for me, as I was just attempting a migration from 1.5, and now the page I was consulting has vanished...

What URL were you looking for? There was a fault in the wiki database that caused some issues and which should now have been fixed. If we are still missing a redirect I can easily re-instate it. Chris Davenport 08:49, 29 January 2012 (CST)
The migration from 1.5 to any later version as presented in this article is incomplete. It may be too much for one article but there are three articles in play here: this one, Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 1.6+ and Upgrading a Joomla 1.5 template to Joomla 1.6. (Is it possible to move from 1.5 to any later version without revising the template?) Can these three articles be merged so that the migration instructions from 1.5 to any later version are in one document?

Ahh, I mistook this article for one of the above. Got it now...
--Dinkorlitz 19:35, 29 January 2012 (CST)
Now that 1.6 and 1.7 are deprecated and 2.5 is here, should the title of this page be changed? Perhaps it would be better to leave this one in place and create a new article with the title of Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5.

Yes. Hmm. I got the redirect the wrong way round. I'll fix it when I get back from work. Chris Davenport 23:59, 25 January 2012 (CST)
Hmm, indeed. When I wrote the question above, there were no redirects in place. Now I can't find the original article. It looks like there's a loop somewhere, Chris.

Well, I have no idea what went wrong but I basically had to delete all pages related to this page and re-create it from the logs. Hopefully, all working again now. Chris Davenport 15:50, 26 January 2012 (CST)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this article only describe how to upgrade from 1.6 or higher to 2.5?
Please add PHP check to the update script. If version==4, then prompt "Please upgrade your PHP"
Otherwise the error message is "Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /var/www/html/administrator/components/com_jupgrade/views/cpanel/view.html.php on line 35"

you might want to add two requirements:
Without mootools the installation process got stuck (from 1.5.2), using a custom made template, too. --Marek 17:27, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I added the install the mootools plugin section (without screenshots) --Weissollo 22:09, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I added a section that describes how to manually upgrade joomla. If anyone has anything to add to it, please feel free.
