This page appears to document the XML file format. Calling this the "installer API" seems like a poor choice of title IMHO.
I'm actually trying to determine if all of these XML elements are applicable to all types of installed items.
I'm trying to create a new table in a module but the sql doesn't seem to be getting called (the installer reports success however).
This "API" doesn't comment at all about what elements are applicable (or not) to component types. I am aware that generally changing the database schema is usually done by a component, however the module I'm trying to create is a simple page hit counter and definitely doesn't require the overhead of a component.
