Using a terminal session

This text describes how to use CPanel and so belongs under Alternative 3, or perhaps under a new Alternative 4. The intention was that this page would describe how to initiate a terminal session (eg. using SSH), then perform the extraction "manually".

I subdivided this page into multiple sections. There was quite a bit of assumed contextual knowledge that many users would not realize. E.g., unpack in the correct directory, use correct tar options according to the compression type (.tar.gz vs. .tar.bz2). Also, pointing novice users to mysql command lines with no reference to MySQL documentation seems like a really bad idea. On top of that, there is still no explanation of the command line redirection, which will undoubtedly confuse some users, and overloading the "command-line prompt" character with the output redirection character was also an inherently error-prone (and potentially dangerous and embarrassing) documentation choice.

Anyway, there is still more work to do on this page, but I hope my few hacques here are helpful! --fjb 01:33, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
