The Administrator application, also known as the Back-end, Admin Panel or Control Panel, is the area where administrators and other site officials with appropriate privileges can manipulate the site. You can set up how your template looks or you can add new extensions such as components, languages, modules, plugins and templates from the Joomla! Extension Directory (JED).

The Administrator can be reached by appending administrator to the URL of your site. If you usally access your site on http://example.com/, go to http://example.com/administrator to access the Administrator.

You can only log in to the Administrator if you have back-end privileges. For Joomla! 1.5, this means you must be a Manager, Administrator or Super Administrator. Once you have logged in, you will see the Control Panel.
