Dans Joomla!, un Article est un morceau de contenu composé de texte (HTML), avec éventuellement des liens vers d'autres ressources (par exemple des images). Les articles sont les unités de base de l'information dans le système de contenu et le plus bas niveau dans la hiérarchie du contenu. Depuis Joomla! 
, chaque Article est inclus dans une et une seule Catégorie. Une Catégorie peut être elle même incluse dans une autre Catégorie devenant ainsi une sous-Catégorie. Il est également possible d'avoir des Articles Non-Catégorisés. Ces articles existent sans être associés à une Catégorie.
Avant Joomla! 2.5 et les versions ultérieures, un article était hiérarchisé en troisième niveau Sections → Catégories → Articles. Désormais, un article est à un niveau inférieur et sera toujours au minimum en second niveau dans la hiérarchisation.

Les articles sont gérés grâce au Gestionnaire d'Articles (voir le Gestionnaire d'Articles pour 
ou le Gestionnaire d'Articles pour ) que vous trouverez dans l'Administration (Backend) en cliquant sur le menu Contenu, puis sur le lien de menu Gestion des Articles.
