The Articles list is used to find, mark featured, add, and edit articles.


Articles are the basic units of information in the content system and the bottom level in the content hierarchy. Each Article is in exactly one Category.

Categories are are used to organise Articles for ease of management and display. They can be organised into tree-like structures like file systems. All Articles must be assigned either to a parent Category or a child Category.</translate> <translate>

This screen is used to add a new or edit a existing Article, usually using a Wysiwyg editor. The default editor is TinyMCE but if other editors are installed the default editor may be set to something else for the site as a whole or for individual users.

Used to set global defaults for menu items that display articles. These default values will be used when 'Use Global' is selected for an option in an Articles menu item.


For example, to show the 'Create Date' for an article in your Articles menu items, then set that option to 'Show' here and it will be the default value.

This is the back-end screen where you can add and edit Articles. The same screen is used for adding a new Article and editing an existing Article. You can also select the Section and Category for an Article and indicate whether or not it is Published and if it is selected to appear on the Front Page.

The Article's content is edited using the default editor selected in the User Manager - New/Edit. The Joomla! default editor is called TinyMCE.

A number of Parameters can be set for the Article. Metadata can also be entered.

Article options are divided into nine groups as follows. Each controls the appearance of the listed type of layout.

  • Articles: Articles in Single Article or blog layouts.
  • Editing Layout: Front-end article add/edit layout.
  • Category: Single Category layouts -- for example, when you click on a category to view the articles it contains.
  • Categories: Articles Categories layout.
  • Blog/Featured Layouts: Featured and Category Blog Layout.
  • List Layouts: Category List Layout.
  • Shared Options: Shared options for list, blog, and featured layouts.
  • Integration: Feed Link and Read More options.
  • Permissions: ALC permissions for actions on articles.
Fields Joomla 3.1

Fields are used to display additional attributes of Articles, Contacts and Users. The data are entered in the Backend and displayed in the Frontend.
