擴充套件是一個軟體程式包，讓您的 Joomla! 功能可以提昇。Joomla! 原始安裝就包含了一些擴充套件，但是您還可以在Joomla! Extensions Directory 找到更多。
「擴充套件」這個詞算是比較籠統，具體而言包含以下的不同類別：
- 元件 (
之後) – 在您的網站中加入客製化功能，而且可以在選單中選擇使用 - 語言 (之後) – 定義網站中額外的翻譯語言
- Library (
之後) – 提供可以使用在其他擴充建中使用的功能 - 模組 (之後) – 在頁面的周邊顯示非核心的資料，也可以顯示在多個頁面上
- 安裝包 (之後) – 合併相關的擴充套件為一份檔案
- 外掛 (
之後) – 在文章中修改內容，或是提供功能來延伸到其他的擴充套件 - 佈景主題 (since ) – 定義網站的外觀、視覺以及瀏覽器相容
