Site Settings[edit]

Site Offline: Tells Joomla! rather the site is to be online or to show an offline message. Only Administrators will be able to see the site when Site Offline is set to Yes. By default, this is set to No.
Offline Message: The message that will be display on the site when the site is offline.
Site Name: The name of the site.
Default WYSIWYG Editor: (WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get) The default editor to use when creating articles.
List Length: The length of lists in the Control Panel for all Users. By default, this is set to 20.
Feed Length: The number of content items to be shown in the feed(s). By default, this is set to 10.

Metadata Settings[edit]

Used by search engine spiders to get description and keywords of the site information.

SEO Settings: SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This settings here would set the site up to be more friendly for search engine spiders to index the site. Please note that it is required to use the included .htaccess file provided with Joomla! if planned on using "Use Apache mod_rewrite". Just rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess.

System Settings:

User Settings: These settings tells Joomla! rather or not users are able to registered.

Media Settings: These settings tells Joomla! what media format and sizes are allow and where the files are located.

Debug Settings: These settings tells Joomla! to turn on or off the debugging system which provides information about the PHP files and the MySQL database and if any errors exist. Please note that it is recommended to leave these to off when running a live site.
