Screen.contactmanager.15

From Joomla! Documentation

The printable version is no longer supported and may have rendering errors. Please update your browser bookmarks and please use the default browser print function instead.

How to access[edit]

Click on 'Contacts' then 'Contacts' in the 'Components' menu on the back-end of your Joomla! installation.

Description[edit]

The Contact Manager screen allows you to add contact information to your Joomla! site. You can enter information such as name, address, phone and email. You can also link contacts to registered users. Front-end links can then be created for users to view the information and send emails to contacts using the Menu Manager.

Column Headers[edit]

Click on the column heading to sort the list by that column's value.

  • #. An indexing number automatically assigned by Joomla! for ease of reference.
  • Checkbox. Check this box to select one or more items. To select all items, check the box in the column heading. After one or more boxes are checked, click a toolbar button to take an action on the selected item or items. Many toolbar actions, such as Publish and Unpublish, can work with multiple items. Others, such as Edit, only work on one item at a time. If multiple items are checked and you press Edit, the first item will be opened for editing.
  • Name. The name of the Contact. You can click on the Name to open the Contact for editing.
  • Published. Whether the item has been published or not. You can change the Published state by clicking on the icon in this column.
  • Order. The order to display items. You can change the order by entering the sequential order and clicking the 'Save Order' icon in the column heading.
  • Access Level. Who has access to this item. Current options are:
    • Public: Everyone has access
    • Registered: Only registered users have access
    • Special: Only users with author status or higher have access
You can change an item's Access Level by clicking on the icon in the column.
  • Category. The Category this item belongs to. Clicking on the Category title opens the Category for editing. See Category Manager - Edit.
  • Linked to User. The username this contact is linked to (if applicable).
  • ID. The ID number. This is a unique identification number for this item assigned automatically by Joomla!. It is used to identify the item internally, for example in internal links. You can not change this number.
  • Display #. The number of items to display on one page. If there are more items than this number, you can use the page navigation buttons (Start, Prev, Next, End, and page numbers) to navigate between pages. Note that if you have a large number of items, it may be helpful to use the Filter options, located above the column headings, to limit which items display (where applicable).

Typical Usage[edit]

One contact can be published/unpublished by clicking the icon in the Published column. Published contacts are marked with a green tick while unpublished ones are marked with a red X. To publish/unpublish several contacts at once, select their checkboxes and click the appropriate toolbar button.

To delete one or more contacts select the checkbox(es) and click the Delete toolbar button. An information message will be displayed and the contacts will be removed from the list.

To change the global contacts parameters, click the Parameters toolbar button: File:Screen contacts params 15.png

Quick Tips[edit]

Contact Categories

You must add categories for your contacts before you add the contact information. These are added using the Category Manager by clicking 'Contacts' then 'Categories' from the 'Components' menu.

Contacts Sort

The contacts are sorted by the Order column by default but you can sort them by any column, just click the column header.

Position of a New Contact

A newly added contact is published by default and is the last one in the selected category. This way you can easily find it and move it to the desired place.

Points to Watch[edit]

Points to Watch Placeholder

Highlight known issues or easy traps that can be fallen into when using this function. Include references to known solutions rather than repeating the solutions here, unless considered essential. Even if there are none immediately apparent leave this section in the Help Screen - this message for future reference. Just replace this message with None Known at this Time. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Please remove this placeholder as soon as you start entering text here.

Dependencies[edit]

Dependencies Placeholder

Describe other screens that rely on the presence of this function or that this function relies upon, in order to work correctly for example: a Category depends upon the presence of a Section (up) and it must be in place before a Categorised Article (down) can be created. If there are no Dependencies either up or down for the particular screen just state None but do include the section. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices. It will probably be sufficient to just list these and provide links to the Help Screens relating to the dependency.
