Description[edit]

The Menu Item Manager lists the menu items contained in a menu created using the Menu Manager.

Menu Item Manager is a new screen in Joomla! 1.5. It was part of the Menu Manager in the 1.0.x series.

  • The Menu and Default toolbar buttons were added.
  • The filter field was completed with the Go and Reset buttons.
  • The Select State drop down filter is a new feature as well. You can narrow the list for the published/unpublished menu items by selecting the appropriate option.
  • The Default column was added.
  • Reorder and Order columns merged into one Order column.
  • The Access column is renamed to Access Level.
  • CID column removed.
  • A column can be sorted ascending/descending by clicking the column header.
  • The removed menu items are dropped into the Menu Trash

Column Headers[edit]

Column Headers Placeholder

Enter details of any specific Column Headers definitions that are unique to this function alone. Do not include this section if not applicable. There is no need to go into major detail in this section unless it is appropriate to do so. Use your judgement or discuss with other team members. Use definition term (dt) and style (dt15) for the name of the Column Header and definition description (dd) and style (dd15) for the explanation of the term.

Typical Usage[edit]

The menu items of each menu created can be handled in the Menu Item Manager. The type in square brackets is appended to the screen title, e.g. "Menu Item Manager: [topmenu]".

The Menu Item Manager can be opened by clicking a menu in the Menus menu. As an alternative you can access it by clicking the icon in the Menu Item(s) column in the Menu Manager.

When you enter the administration back-end and click the Menu Stats module in the Control Panel, it will list the available menus and their published menu items. The menu types are linked to their Menu Item Manager screens, so it is a third way to open it. See the image below.

You can create new menu items by clicking the New toolbar button. When you want to modify the parameters of an existing one, then select it and click the Edit toolbar button or just simply click it and the Menu Item: [ Edit ] screen will be loaded.

One menu item can be published/unpublished by clicking the icon in the Published column. The published menu items are marked with a green tick while the unpublished ones are marked with a red X. When you want to publish/unpublish several menu items, select their checkboxes and click the appropriate toolbar button.

You can copy one or more menu items to another existing menu. Just select the checkbox(es) and click the Copy toolbar button. The following page will be loaded.

Please select the target menu in the Copy to Menu list box and click the Copy toolbar button to complete the process. If you changed your mind and do not wish to copy your menu item(s), then you can stop it by clicking the Cancel button on the toolbar.

You can move one or more menu items to another existing menu. Just select the checkbox(es) and click the Move toolbar button. The following page will be loaded.

Please select the target menu in the Move to Menu list box and click the Move toolbar button to complete the process. If you changed your mind and do not wish to move your menu item(s), then you can stop it by clicking the Cancel button on the toolbar.

One or more menu items can be trashed using the Trash toolbar button. You have to select the checkboxes of the menu items to be deleted. Similarly to the articles they are moved to the Trash what can be opened by the Menus -> Menu Trash menu item. A similar page will be loaded like the image below:

One or more selected menu items can be restored by clicking the Restore toolbar button. When they are really unnecessary in the future, just click the Delete toolbar button and they will be permanently deleted.

Quick Tips[edit]

Quick Tips Placeholder

Using the analogy of the previous section this is the sauce and condiments that go with the meat! Provide any one liners that may not normally be obvious. These may already be known to you or you may spot something within the forums or other publications. Just ensure they work and that the wording is consistent with the rest of the document and not a straight copy of the content from other sources. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Points to Watch[edit]

Highlight known issues or easy traps that can be fallen into when using this function. Include references to known solutions rather than repeating the solutions here, unless considered essential. Even if there are none immediately apparent leave this section in the Help Screen - this message for future reference. Just replace this message with None Known at this Time. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Dependencies[edit]

Dependencies Placeholder

Describe other screens that rely on the presence of this function or that this function relies upon, in order to work correctly for example: a Category depends upon the presence of a Section (up) and it must be in place before a Categorised Article (down) can be created. If there are no Dependencies either up or down for the particular screen just state None but do include the section. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices. It will probably be sufficient to just list these and provide links to the Help Screens relating to the dependency.
