==List Filters==

'''Filter by Partial Title'''

You can filter the list of items either by typing part of the title or the ID number.

[[Image:Help30-Extensions-Language-Manager-filter-name-subscreen.png]]

If you have a large number of items on the list, you can use this filter to find the desired item(s) quickly. Enter either part of the title or an ID number and press 'Search' to display the matching items. You can type whole words or part of a word. For example, "ooml" will match all titles with the word "Joomla!" in them.

Column Headers[edit]

In the table containing languages these are the different columns as shown below. Click on the column heading to sort the list by that column's value.

Help35-Language-Manager-Content-columns-en.png
  • Ordering. Up-Down ArrowsHelp30-Ordering-colheader-icon.png. User specified ordering, default is order of languages creation. When active, drag and drop ordering by 'click and hold' on the bars iconHelp30-Ordering-colheader-grab-bar-icon.png then 'release' in desired position.
  • Checkbox. Check this box to select one or more languages. To select all languages, check the box in the column heading.
Note: Many toolbar actions can work with multiple languages.
  • Status. Published Help30-Article-status-featured-published-feature-manager-en.png or Unpublished Help30-Article-status-not-published-feature-manager-en.png languages are shown. Click on the green check mark or the red circle in the Status column to toggle between Published and Unpublished.
  • Title. The name of the language. You can open the language for editing by clicking on the Title.
  • Native Title. Language title in the native language.
  • Language Tag. The language tag - example: 'en-GB' for 'English (United Kingdom)'. This should be the exact prefix used for the language installed or to be installed.
  • URL Language Code. SEF for this language. If 'en' is used then it will be added after the site URL. Example: 'https://mysite.com/en'. Note: The prefix must be unique over all the languages.
  • Image. Name of the image file for this language when using the 'Use Image Flags' Language Switcher basic option. Example: If 'en' is chosen, then the image shall be 'en.gif'. Images and CSS for this module are in media/mod_languages/.
  • Home. Whether there is a default page set for this language or not.
  • ID. This is a unique identification number for this language assigned automatically by Joomla. It is used to identify the language internally, and you cannot change this number.

Column Filters[edit]

Above the column headers on the right, there are 2 dropdown input fields, Sort Table By: (preset to 'Ordering ascending') and a number (preset to '20') to display.

Help35-colheader-Column-Filter-Ordering-Ascending-DisplayNum-Language-Manager-Content-en.png

These column sorting input fields shows the current method of sorting applied to the table. Use the dropdown field choices and click the column heading name. Alternatively, click on the column heading to sort the list by that column's value.

This will also change the value in the drop field to correspond with the column header name. The list will then be sorted in order by that column and a sort icon (up or down arrow) will show next to the column name. Click a second time to reverse the sort, which will change the corresponding drop field.

  • Ordering ascending (default). Shows ordering of selected column, ascending or descending.
  • Number of languages to display. Shows the number of languages to display on one page, default is 20 languages. If there are more languages than this number, you can use the page navigation buttons to navigate between pages.

List Filters[edit]

The List Filters are a series of controls that let you limit what languages show in the screen. More than one filter may be entered. In this case, only languages that meet all of the filter conditions will show on the list.

Filter by Partial Title or ID

In the upper left is a search field and 2 buttons.

Help30-colheader-filter-field-en.png
  • To filter by partial title, enter part of the title and click 'Search' Help30-Search-Button.png
  • To filter by ID number, enter "id:xx", where "xx" is the ID number (for example, "id:29").
  • Click 'Clear' to clear the Filter field and restore the list to its unfiltered state.

Search Tools[edit]

Above the column headings, there are 2 dropdown list boxes.

Toolbar[edit]

At the top left you will see the toolbar.

Help35-New-Edit-Publish-Unpublish-Trash-InstallLanguages-Help-Options-toolbar-en.png

The functions are:

  • New. Opens the editing screen to create a new content language.
  • Edit. Opens the editing screen for the selected content language. If more than one content language is selected (where applicable), only the first content language will be opened. The editing screen can also be opened by clicking on the Name of the content language.
  • Publish. Makes the selected content languages available to visitors to your website.
  • Unpublish. Makes the selected content languages unavailable to visitors to your website.
  • Trash. Changes the status of the selected content languages to indicate that they are trashed. Trashed content languages can still be recovered by selecting 'Trashed' in the 'Select Status' filter and changing the status of the content languages to Published or Unpublished as preferred. To permanently delete trashed content languages, select 'Trashed' in the 'Select Status' filter, select the content languages to be permanently deleted, then click the 'Empty Trash' toolbar icon.
  • Help. Opens this help screen.
  • Options. Opens the Options window where settings such as default parameters can be edited.

Quick Tips[edit]

  • To permanently delete languages:
    1. Change the status of the languages to Trashed.
    2. Change the Status filter to Trashed. At this point the trashed languages will show and the Empty trash button Help screen toolbar icon Empty Trash.png will show in the toolbar.
    3. Select the desired trashed languages and click on Empty trash in the toolbar. The languages will be permanently deleted.
  • Users can use any Language from the list of installed Languages, either by having it assigned in the User Manager or by filling out a Menu Item Manager - New/Edit - User Form Layout at the Frontend. This will cause the Joomla system prompts to be generated in this Language just for this User. For example, if a User chooses Spanish as their language, then the Search Module will show with prompts in Spanish.
  • This User's choice is not affected by the Default Language set for the Frontend.
  • Changing a User's Language or the Default Language does not affect the web site's Articles and other content.
  • Important: Do not delete the default language files (for example, with FTP). This will create errors on both the Frontend and Backend.
  • Additional Languages can be added using the Install Languages Screen.
  • If desired, you can show the Frontend site in one Language and show the Backend administration pages in a different Language. Also, individual articles can be configured to use a different language in the Sidebar when editing the Article.
