The above image is the main configuration file for your Joomla 1.5.X installation under the site tab. As you see there are three tabs: Site, System and Server. The Site settings directly relate to your site, the system is user registration, etc and the Server settings are some of the settings you can set up that related to the web server that your Joomla site is hosted on. We will go through each set tab

In this article we will show you how to get to your global configuration settings and what they are. Go to your administrator page http://yourdomain.com/yourpathtojoomla/administrator. You will need to log in with the admin credentials that you created when you installed Joomla. Once in you will see a lot of options. You want to put your mouse over Site then click on Global Configuration.

Site Tab

The above image is the main configuration file for your Joomla 1.5.X installation under the site tab. As you see there are three tabs: Site, System and Server. The Site settings directly relate to your site, the system is user registration, etc and the Server settings are some of the settings you can set up that related to the web server that your Joomla site is hosted on. We will go through each set tab

Site Offline: This will allow your site to go offline and allow only administrators to log in. When visitors come to your site they will see a message that states: This site is down for maintenance. Please Check back again soon. This information can be changed. Currently I have my site set to go offline when we do backups, etc. I also disable all but one admin account which is the root (main) admin account. My message states: We are currently doing a backup of the website as good practice. The backup should not take longer 2 hrs from x:xx am/pm. Please check back then.

Site Name: Here you can set up your website name. As you see this one is set up as Waynesboro Area Senior High School. I am currently looking to possibly converting their site to Joomla for better management.

Show Title Meta Tag: Here you can disable or enable the feature that the title description is shown for articles.

Show Author Meta Tag:This is the same as above but for the author instead of the title.

Default WYSIWYG Editor: First off what does WYSIWYG stand for. This stands for What you see is what you get. There are two main editors a basic Joomla install comes with. This is JCE & TinyMCE. You can also choose no editor. I would highly suggest you use one. I do not use any of the above two. I have downloaded and installed FCK Editor. This editor look likes Microsoft Word in a way. The choice is up to you. I would recommend to find one that is easy for you to use.

List Length: This is how many items will be in a list at a time on page. If you have 40 article pages. You will have two pages because the default list length is 20. You can change this anywhere from 5 to 100 in increments of 5.

Feed Length: You can have different feeds. The Feed length is set to show the number of content items in a specific feed.

Global Site Meta Description: You can add a description of your overall website. This will be used by search engines when they index your site. The Google bot does this a lot.

Global Site Meta Keywords: This is used similar to the Meta Description. IN here you need to enter keywords that best describe your site. Like the website I might be porting over to Joomla, I would use school district, Waynesboro, High School, etc.

Other data forth coming later on this week!
