Description[edit]

File:Screen templates 15.png

The visual experience of your site front-end and back-end can be controlled in the Template Manager by choosing an installed template. A default template is used on all pages, but different templates can be assigned to various pages. The Template Manager also provides editing capabilities for the main index file of the template and the stlye sheet (CSS) file.

Version Changes[edit]

In Joomla! 1.0.x the Template Manager was available from Site -> Template Manager -> Site Templates and Administrator Templates menu item. The parameters of a Joomla! 1.0 template were hardcoded, but the parameters of a Joomla! 1.5 template can be configured easily on the Template [Edit] screen.

In Joomla! 1.5 a template is a type of extensions, so the Template Manager was moved to the Extensions menu.

In Joomla! 1.0 you could have a look at the available template positions by clicking the Site -> Preview -> Inline with Positions menu item. In Joomla! 1.5 you are searching for this menu item in vain. Please click the Preview toolbar button on the Template [Edit] screen instead.

Column Headers[edit]

Template:Help screen column header Template name

Template:Help screen column header Assigned

Template:Help screen column header Date

Template:Help screen column header Author

Typical Usage[edit]

If you hover over the name of the template, a thumbnail image of that template is displayed. Clicking on the template name will present the template configuration screen, which provides all the basic details of the template. Parameters available for configuration appear in the Parameters pane. Clicking the Edit HTML button will display the basic text editor, which was designed to allow minor adjustments. If you click on the Edit CSS button on the template screen, the text editor will be displayed with the style sheet file of the template. For a template with multiple style sheets, you can select which one to edit. If you are curious about the available module positions, click the Preview button on the toolbar and the site front-end will be loaded showing you the available positions.

Quick Tips[edit]

Quick Tips Placeholder

Using the analogy of the previous section this is the sauce and condiments that go with the meat! Provide any one liners that may not normally be obvious. These may already be known to you or you may spot something within the forums or other publications. Just ensure they work and that the wording is consistent with the rest of the document and not a straight copy of the content from other sources. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Points to Watch[edit]

Points to Watch Placeholder

Highlight known issues or easy traps that can be fallen into when using this function. Include references to known solutions rather than repeating the solutions here, unless considered essential. Even if there are none immediately apparent leave this section in the Help Screen - this message for future reference. Just replace this message with None Known at this Time. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices.

Dependencies[edit]

Dependencies Placeholder

Describe other screens that rely on the presence of this function or that this function relies upon, in order to work correctly for example: a Category depends upon the presence of a Section (up) and it must be in place before a Categorised Article (down) can be created. If there are no Dependencies either up or down for the particular screen just state None but do include the section. Use paragraph format type and do not add extra white space. Ensure that you use the correct styles for inline emphasis and notices. It will probably be sufficient to just list these and provide links to the Help Screens relating to the dependency.
