The "J1.5" namespace is an archived namespace. This page contains information for a Joomla! version which is no longer supported. It exists only as a historical reference, it will not be improved and its content may be incomplete and/or contain broken links.

User names[edit]

Various words are used for the username - sometimes it is called the login name - they all mean the same thing.

Joomla! has a system for controlling access to a web site using usernames. These are listed in the backend and are normally manged by the system administrator. They always have a password and usually have more information associated with them. Some sites have many usernames, some only a few.

You will need a username in order to be able to add and edit articles and thus use this hands-on Manual. Some website visitors never login and are just able to see things that have been permitted for guests to see. Others can login but have 'read only' access to the site - in other words they cannot alter anything. You will need to be given a user name (and a password) by your system administrator with a level of access that will allow you to edit and create content.

How to login[edit]

To login to a site - find the LOGIN area (this is often to the left of the page - but can be elsewhere). There will be a box for the username and one for the password.

Type your username into the appropriate box
Type your password into the password box
Click LOGIN button

You are likely to be able to see more menus on the site that you could as an ordinary visitor. And you should also be able to edit some of the content.
