Documentation all together.jpg

Joomla! is a powerful, flexible Content Management System (CMS) with a huge amount of community support.

Which, when you start out can present a problem!

  • Where do I start?
  • Which parts are important now?
  • How do I get help if I'm stuck?

This page is an attempt to provide you with the resources you need as you begin your journey with Joomla!

And, if you cannot find what you want here, please feel free to leave a comment on the Talk:Addacumen talk page and we shall see if we can help.

The box below shows some popular beginner pages which address a variety of problems you may meet. ENJOY

The varieties of Joomla!

There are three varieties of Joomla! each of which is a major step along the road of its development.

  • Joomla 1.0 probably not for a beginner. This is where Joomla! started now some years ago. This link leads to the Legacy Documentation.
  • Joomla 1.5 The current stable version. This is what beginners who want to build a web site need. The links in the box to the right are about Joomla! 1.5
  • Joomla 1.6 The next version of Joomla! which will be available shortly.
    • Should that worry you if you are beginning now with Joomla! 1.5. Absolutely not because the migration path from 1.5 to 1.6 will be smooth and straightforward.
The path to Joomla 1.6

Joomla 1.6 We are getting close to the release of Joomla 1.6, but we need your help to finish it. If you are a developer then please look in the development cookie jar for a list of tasks we need help with. If you see something that takes your fancy then follow the instructions to claim the task and start working on it.

You can see a summary of overall progress on the development status page.

Finding stuff on this wiki
Wiki is a Hawaiian word which means quick. It describes a class of web sites which may be changed or edited by a large number of people. You may be somewhat surprised that anything useful can be built that way but this site and Wikipedia demonstrate that it can.
Pages in this wiki are organised within a hierarchy of categories. Page or Category names in red are referred to but have yet to be built.
